We are here to address one of the most critical problem called ICU and OT Infection which is at an alarming rate of 38% & has downgraded India to 145 amongst 195 countries in health care.
Ground Reality
Operation theatre and ICU are the most critically life-saving place for the patient; but in India we have gone through some stats & have found some tragedic reality:
Hygiene & Utilization
Generally, it has been seen that out of 365 days ICU & OT facility is used for approx 279 to 290 days which is almost 91.5% of utilization. Hygiene and disinfection are the most important criteria for ICU and OT.
Guidelines
Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine ISCCM guidelines on planning and designing intensive care units (ICUs were first developed in 2001) and later opted in 2007. These guidelines were adopted in India's major institutions including NABH.
Ranking & Audits
Various international professional bodies have proper auditing but in the Indian medical scenario most of the ICUs and OTs do not get audited regularly and if they are getting, it is compromised. India is holding 145th rank amongst 195 countries in healthcare access, study by lanset.
Infection
Surgical Site Infection SSIs remains one of the most common causes of serious surgical complication they account for 14 to 17 percent of all hospital-acquired infections and 38% of nosocomial infection in surgical patients.
Occurance
Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) are defined as infections occurring up to 30 days after surgery (or up to one year after surgery in patients receiving implants) and affecting either the incision or deep tissue at the site of the operation site.
Poor Sanitization
One of the major reason for occurence of infections could be:
i. Non- Cleaning of AC Filters
ii. Absence of the Hepa Filter

Current Disadvantages of ICU & OT
India is ranked 145 amongst 195 countries which means that we are extremely unprofessional and dishonest with the patient. Most of the hospitals are managing their NABH audits and approx. 37% people died because of OT and ICU infection. Nowadays, a lot of honest doctors have started advising their patients and their relatives about avoiding getting admitted in ICU until it is unavoidable in cases like pneumonia, fever, coughing, TB, and diarrhoea among other infections.
In today's economy hospitals are facing maximum problems in terms of maintaining their ICUs and OTs. A maximum number of Doctors refrain from entering the OTs because of their unhygienic standards though OTs and ICUs are the most critical department of any hospital and are maximum revenue earner. Despite this fact still, hospitals are not able to cope up with this issue. There are 32% of patients who get infected during surgeries and 37% post surgeries.
How PRANAVAYU comes into Play.
“PRANAVAYU is a mission to provide safest OT & ICU condition by adopting the world’s highest standard and most trained and ethical manpower. Almost 2.4 million Indians die of treatable conditions every year, the worst situation among 136 nations studied for a report published in The Lancet.
“For too long, the global health discourse has been focused on improving access to care, without sufficient emphasis on high quality care,” Muhammad Pate, co-chair of the commission that produced the report, who is also chief executive of Big Win Philanthropy and former minister of state for health in Nigeria, said in a statement. “Providing health services without guaranteeing a minimum level of quality is ineffective, wasteful and unethical"
OUR UNIQUENESS
Role of Regulator
Mainly, NABH is responsible for maintaining the standard but due to insufficient trained resources, it is not possible to maintain the standard.
As we are well equipped and professionally managed, we urge the government and all medical institutions to hire us for their audit and consultancy purposes.
